๐ฉบ Role Summary: Deliver Frontline Health & Nutrition Services
The Health and Nutrition Officer is a key field position focused on providing clinical support and community-based interventions for malnourished children and vulnerable groups. This role ensures effective implementation of national and international guidelines for acute malnutrition and integrated health programming.
๐ Key Responsibilities
1. Clinical Management and CMAM Implementation
- Conduct thorough physical assessments for children and pregnant/lactating women.
- Provide medical care based on GOAL’s health protocols and Ethiopian CMAM guidelines.
- Administer medications, antibiotics, and therapeutic foods accurately.
- Monitor the patient’s nutritional status and medical progression.
- Ensure infection control measures are strictly adhered to.
2. Programmatic Leadership and Community Engagement
- Coordinate Outpatient Therapeutic Program (OTP), Supplementary Feeding (TSFP), Stabilization Center (SC), and Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) activities.
- Support C-MAMI (Care for Mothers and Infants) where applicable.
- Collaborate with health posts and community health workers to ensure defaulter tracing and follow-up.
- Lead health promotion campaigns targeting key topics like breastfeeding, dietary diversity, and hygiene.
3. Monitoring, Reporting, and Data Integrity
- Maintain detailed medical records and program documentation.
- Submit weekly and monthly reports to the Senior Officer, covering progress indicators, challenges, and achievements.
- Monitor medical supply chains and manage the distribution of RUTF, antibiotics, deworming tablets, and other nutrition items.
- Support digital data collection tools where implemented.
4. Capacity Building and Team Supervision
- Supervise nurse aides, IYCF counselors, and nutrition assistants.
- Offer on-the-job mentoring and training sessions to frontline health staff.
- Assist in work planning, schedule rotation, and field logistics coordination.
- Foster an inclusive and empowering work culture aligned with GOAL’s gender-sensitive and child-protection policies.
๐ Required Qualifications and Competencies
Educational Requirements
Option 1:
- Diploma (Level IV) in Nursing
- COC Certified + Valid Professional License
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in clinical care at hospitals or NGOs
Option 2:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSc)
- COC Certified + Valid Professional License
- Minimum 1 year of experience
Key Skills and Attributes
- Proven expertise in CMAM, SC, OTP, TSFP, IYCF methodologies
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Capable of community mobilization and behavior change communication
- Computer literate: basic knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and mobile data tools
- Strong problem-solving and team management capabilities
- Committed to humanitarian ethics, gender equity, and protection principles
