Operating in Ethiopia since 2003, People in Need Ethiopia is actively engaged in supporting marginalized communities across regions such as Oromia, Central Ethiopia, Sidama, South Ethiopia, and Tigray. We address critical issues in education, agriculture, WASH, social protection, and climate resilience through integrated and community-driven programming.
We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Education Coordinator to lead and implement our Education in Emergencies (EiE) efforts under the “WASH and EIE Emergency Response” project funded by ECHO.
Position: Education Coordinator – Emergency Program
- Location: Nekemet, Oromia Region, Ethiopia (with frequent travel to field sites)
- Contract Duration: Until January 31, 2026 (with high possibility of extension)

Key Responsibilities of the Role
Program Design and Implementation
As an Education Coordinator, you will oversee the design, planning, execution, and evaluation of EiE programs tailored for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and host communities. Responsibilities include:
- Leading Accelerated Learning Programs (ALP) and establishing Temporary Learning Spaces (TLS).
- Aligning activities with national education standards and INEE Minimum Standards.
- Delivering technical training and capacity-building sessions for staff and stakeholders.
- Coordinating with internal units such as WASH and Protection to ensure a holistic approach.
Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEAL)
- Track progress and outcomes against project goals and indicators.
- Collaborate with MEAL teams to conduct baseline and end-line assessments.
- Facilitate community engagement via School Management Committees (SMCs) and Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs).
- Assist in producing high-quality reports for donors and stakeholders.
Stakeholder and Partner Engagement
- Establish and maintain strong working relationships with local authorities, community leaders, and partner NGOs.
- Represent PIN in technical working groups, coordination forums, and sectoral platforms to foster cross-sectoral collaboration.
- Promote understanding of project goals and ensure local ownership of education interventions.
Safeguarding and Accountability
- Ensure strict compliance with PIN’s Code of Conduct, safeguarding, and Prevention of Sexual Exploitation, Abuse, and Harassment (PSEAH) policies.
- Train and monitor team members on safeguarding standards.
- Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation measures related to child protection and SEAH.

Desired Profile
Educational Background and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or related discipline.
- Minimum 3–5 years of field experience in Education in Emergencies (EiE).
- Familiarity with WASH in schools, child protection, and multi-sectoral programming.
- Hands-on experience in capacity building, training facilitation, and team leadership.
Technical and Interpersonal Skills
- Strong planning, coordination, and project management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to engage with diverse stakeholders, including government offices and communities.
- Excellent communication in English and Amharic; Oromiffa is a strong advantage.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools and typing in Oromiffa and English.
- Integrity, patience, and ability to work under pressure in challenging field settings.
