🔐 Key Responsibilities for the Role
As a Safety & Security Assistant, you will be at the forefront of field security operations, ensuring the well-being of staff and maintaining secure operational environments in Chereti and neighboring regions. Your role will support the successful implementation of FHI 360’s global safety standards and strengthen risk management mechanisms across field locations.
Primary duties include:
- Supporting the implementation of safety and security protocols across various field sites.
- Assisting with risk assessments, incident investigations, and site inspections to evaluate safety conditions.
- Maintaining ongoing situational awareness by monitoring local political, social, and environmental developments.
- Establishing and maintaining coordination with local authorities, NGOs, and humanitarian actors on security matters.
- Organizing and facilitating security briefings, training sessions, and awareness programs for field staff.
- Playing a key role in emergency preparedness, evacuation planning, and response coordination.
- Documenting and tracking staff movements, field travel, and related communications to ensure accountability and visibility.
- Ensuring compliance with FHI 360’s safety standards and aligning all practices with national and international guidelines.
🎓 Minimum Qualifications and Skill Requirements
Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to humanitarian principles and a keen understanding of the local security dynamics within Ethiopia.
Qualifications include:
- A BA degree (or international equivalent) in Security Management, Information Management, International Relations, Business Administration, or relevant Social/Political Sciences.
- 0–2 years of professional experience in security operations, military, investigation, or law enforcement. Prior exposure to NGOs or humanitarian field operations is a significant asset.
- Good understanding of conflict sensitivity, cultural contexts, and security landscapes in Ethiopia.
- Excellent communication and analytical skills, with the ability to stay neutral and handle sensitive situations with discretion.
- Fluency in Amharic and proficiency in English is required.
